Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the nuances, strengths, as well as the barriers and limitations of this relationship in intercultural contexts. In this sense, was proposed the development of the present study with the objective of analyzing the nurse-patient relationship in the presence of cultural diversity in situations of care for indigenous patients. For this, we realized a qualitative study with ethnographic approach, which allowed the recognition of the different elements to understand that relationship. Nursing and indigenous representations, communication, cultural mediation, as well as care strategies are factors that showing the situation of the indigenous nurse-patient relationship; a relationship that demonstrates the difficulties for communication, empathy and rapport with patients from a different culture. Likewise, they become references to achieve an adequate indigenous nurse-patient relationship. Finally, they constitute elements to improve the quality of nursing care in intercultural contexts.
