Communication is a clinical competence, and of important when we find ourselves faced with difficult and distressing situations for health professionals. Sometimes we do not know how to behave and what to say when the other is irritated, and demands actions or tasks that overwhelm us or escape our control and understanding. With these recommendations as a guide, the reader is intended to reflect and acquire an effective action plan. It is presented as a Decalogue: effective assertive behaviors to handle the family complaint, as well as identify the most common mistakes.
