Abstract

Objective:
Was to explore the importance of physical activity in a group of elderly people.
Methods:
To achieve the goals, a qualitative research was done in the district of Tome, Chile, using in-deep interviews and groups of discussion for 15 elders of 60 years old, registered in physical activities workshops, without cognitive impairment that hinder the speech development, and that signed up the informed consent. A content analysis was applied to study the answer of the participants.
Results:
The semantic construction of the elder's speech allows to identify the perception of the physical activity's development as a space to keep on active, emphasizing the sensation of physical wellness, with better spirit and a greater impression of happiness and closeness to their friends and families.
Conclusions:
A positive opinion of the elders is highlighted toward the participation in the workshops of physical activity, with a wellness feeling that allows to comprehend an improvement in the quality of life of the elder participants.
