Objective:
Identify the relationship between emotional intelligence, alcohol consumption and mental health in elderly persons.
Methods:
A Personal Data Record, the Meta-Mood Scale, the Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test-Geriatric Version (MASTG) and the Positive Mental Health Scale were applied.
Results:
68% of the participants were female, a positive and significant relationship was observed between emotional intelligence and alcohol consumption (r = .17, p = .05) and a negative and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and mental health (r= -.19, p = .05).
Conclusions:
Emotional intelligence can be a factor that impacts the well-being of the individual; However, it is necessary to investigate what factors together allow you to avoid or reduce alcohol consumption and achieve or maintain mental health.
