ABEJON, D. et al. Epidurolysis efficacy in the treatment of failed back surgery. Rev. Soc. Esp. Dolor [online]. 2007, vol.14, n.3, pp.177-184. ISSN 1134-8046.

Introduction: Epidurolysis is an interventional pain management technique to treating radiculopathy and low back pain. Our results and technique are exposed when using this technique in patient with syndrome postlaminectomy (FBSS). Material and Methods: A retrospective study was conduced in 15 patients with FBSS, from May/2005 to January/2006 to determine the outcome of epidurolisis to reduce pain. The technique was carried out in operation room with fluoroscopy. The approach was medial or lateral. After carrying out an epidurography, a catheter of Racz is introduced. It leaves injecting a contrast mixture with isotonic saline when a stop appears, until lysis the adhesions in epidural space. The analgesia and satisfaction is valued by means of a simple numeric scale (NS). Results: 15 patients are studied. NS basal mean was 8 and decreased, in the lst month, to 4 and 5 in 2nd month, and 3rd months (p <0.005). They have not been differences in the localization of the pain neither of the used surgery type. The mean grade of satisfaction was of 2.8. There were not complications. Conclusions: The epidurolysis seems to be a short term sure and effective technique in the FBSS. The use of isotonic saline facilitates the infusión of a superior volume and it eliminates the risks of the hypertonic saline.
