As the Geriatric Nursing specialty developes slowly the two authors of this research questioned themselves: do the receivers of health care know about the existence of Nursing specialties, or even the specialty which cares for the elderly? The purpose of the research is related to what elderly people or their main carers know about the existence of Geriatric Nursing. The necessary methodology (descriptive design) is used to answer these questions. Four samples are selected from some centers of health assistance. They concluded that very few people did really know about Nursing specialties or Geriatric Nursing specialty. Several interventions are suggested to change this reality. It is also added the result of a pilot exploration among undergraduate Nursing students from the University of Jaen and their knowledge about how to study this kind of Nursing specialty.
