Objective:

To identify the barriers in access to health care for the elderly and associate them with each of the stages of the process of access to health goods and services.

Methodology:

A narrative review of the literature was carried out between 2005 and 2017 in Spanish, English and Portuguese in the PubMed, LILACS, SciELO and Redalyc databases.

Results:

Economic, physical-geographical, socio-cultural and administrative-organizational barriers were identified with different intensity according to the stage of the care process in question.
