Resumen
DELGADO-SANCHEZ, María del Pilar et al. Leading processes: teaching how to care for elderly people with dementia. Gerokomos [online]. 2025, vol.36, n.1, pp.30-36. Epub 05-Mayo-2025. ISSN 1134-928X. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/s1134-928x2025000100006.
Objective:
To describe the implementation, development and evaluation of training workshops for carers of people with dementia.
Methodology:
Description of the experience from January 2023 to April 2024. The process was analysed and there were meetings with specialists and the association of people with dementia, integrating the voice of the patient. The characteristics and contents of the workshop were defined and posters, didactic support material and cognitive stimulation were developed. A diffusion campaign was planned in hospitals, health centres, residences, social services and community media. The workshops were evaluated by means of a satisfaction survey. The didactic material was validated by the patients' association.
Results:
Diffusion sessions: 16; attendees: 120; media reports: 23; workshops for carers: 17; attendees: 191. Workshop rating: 9.4/10. 95.6% consider that the information they have received can improve the care they provide: 95.6%. Workshops for carers in care homes and volunteers: 4 workshops; 70 attendees; 98.58% "can improve their work".
Conclusions:
The workshop has contributed to the training of carers, allowing them to resolve doubts, share experiences and has favoured care at home. The attendees have shown a high level of satisfaction. This programme demonstrates nursing leadership in the management and efficiency of continuity of care processes.
