Abstract

RODES LLORET, F.. Sternal foramen vs orifice of a gunshot wound. Cuad. med. forense [online]. 2004, n.35, pp.71-74. ISSN 1988-611X.

Sternal foramen is a congenital defect of sternal ossification. The importance of studying this, in the area of Forensic anthropology, lies in the possibility of its confusion with the orifice of a gunshot wound. We present an exceptional example where a case of sternal foramen and the orifice of a gunshot wound coexist. The photographs illustrate the different characteristics of both orifices.

Keywords : Sternal foramen; sternal ossification; forensic anthropology; gunshot wound.
