PASCUAL-MOSCARDO, Agustín; ABREU-RODRIGUEZ, Rixio Jesús  e  ALONSO-HERNANDEZ, Mª Teresa. Influence of air abrasion on enamel bond strength of different adhesive systems. RCOE [online]. 2003, vol.8, n.3, pp.295-301. ISSN 1138-123X.

Objective: To compare the bond strength between enamel and resin, using as conditioning treatments: air abrasion, acid etching, conventional and selfetching adhesives. Material and method: Seventy human teeth free of decay and restorations were selected, placed in the test tubes and randomly divided into seven groups. The enamel surfaces were treated as follows: (A) air abrasion followed by application of Prompt L-Pop, (B) Soflex discs + Prompt L-Pop, (C) Prompt L-Pop, (D) air abrasion, etching with phosphoric acid for 20 seconds + adhesive (Excite), (E) air abrasion, acid etching for 5 seconds + Excite, (F) Soflex discs, acid etching for 20 seconds + Excite. The control group (G) was treated with air abrasion + Excite. All groups received cylinders of composite and were subjected to shear strength tests in the Instron machine. Results: The best results were obtained in group A, although there were no statistically significant differences with regards to group D. The worst behaviour was obtained in the control group (G). Conclusion: air abrasion alone is an effective procedure for obtaining adhesion to enamel, but the bond strength improves dramatically if supplemented with acid etching or use of selfetching adhesive systems.
