Grounds. The Infant Dental Care Programme (PADI - Programa de Asistencia Dental Infantil), better known as the capitation programme, began in 1990 (Basque Country) and 1991 (Navarra). A great amount of information has been generated in these thirteen years, enabling the process and results to be evaluated. The purpose is to comment on the opinion of professionals, and the expectations for the future.  Material and method. From 1990 to 1994, professional associations conducted surveys to record the opinion of their members regarding the programme. In 2003, the Illustrious General Council of Odontological and Stomatological Associations of Spain entrusted the company CIES with surveying the level of satisfaction among approved dentists with the PADI.  Results. At the beginning, more than 50% had a negative opinion of the PADI, while 36-38% were sceptical and only 5% supported it. In 2003, 65% state that they are satisfied or very satisfied with the programme. On a scale from 0 to 10, the programme as a whole receives 5.9, capitation scores 4.7 and the amount of remuneration 4.0. Dentists in Navarra prove to be more satisfied than those in the Basque Country.  Conclusion. Approved dentists are mostly satisfied with the PADI, although the amount of remuneration is the most criticised factor. The increased acceptance of the PADI by professionals facilitates its introduction in other communities, although it will be necessary to adapt professional practice to these new scenarios.
