Abstract

Research in medical education undertaken during the past decades has contributed to better understand the learning process. Teachers should know the results of these studies in order to adequate the training programs to the available evidence. This article reviews the state of the art of professional development of physicians. Current trends consider learning as a constructive, self-directed, collaborative and contextual process. Further the learning principles, this issue deals with the clinical reasoning process and the relevance of reflexive practice along the professional life.
