TUTTE VALLARINO and RECHE GARCIA, C.. Burnout, resilience and optimism female hockey. CPD [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.3, pp.73-78. ISSN 1989-5879.
There are few relationship between burnout, resilience and optimism studies in sportive context. It becomes even more difficult to find literature to flesh out these concepts in team sports. The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence and relationship between the symptoms of burnout, resilience and optimism in women hockey players. And its relationship with variables such as age and dedication of sports. 130 athletes were evaluated (age 13 to 19; M = 18.5, SD = 4.3). The results show that 4.6% of the athletes score burnout, focusing the highest percentage within a moderate level of symptoms which reaches 42.9%. Also we find a high resilience at 8.5% of the participants in the study, being mostly within a moderate profile resilience (57.7%). Meanwhile, optimism reached 66.2% in the moderate and high. In the case of symptoms of burnout statistically significant differences in terms of age and dedication of sport they found. Resilience and optimism showed differences of appearance depending on the dedication of sports, but not in terms of age. Finally, we found differences between athletes who have symptoms of burnout in relation to the resilience and optimism, resulting in symptoms than those who have a lower resilience and optimism. These results show psychological indicators that can be evaluated by a sports psychologist for early detection and intervention in athletes of different levels and dedication.
