Abstract

The aim of this paper is to describe some of the key aspects of the Florence Nightingale´s spiritual context, focusing in the Protestant Reformation, by a critical reading of the selected sources, including Nightingale´s works and secondary literature. Although exits a certain consensus on the Unitarism´ influence over Nightingale is neccesary to redefine its real role, keeping in mind other religious trends as Wesleyan Methodism. To get a right understanding of these influences nursing scholars should to study in depth the Protestant Reformation evolution, specially the Anglicanism. Florence Nightingale had an own an rich spirituality developed in a complex religious and spiritual context. Her spiritual position was not clearly related with particular religious practices or with the participation in a concrect community, but with a personal and elaborate religious feeling.
