AMEZCUA, Manuel. Nursing, a profession and discipline that is moving forward by its values. Temperamentvm [online]. 2024, vol.20, e14856.  Epub 04-Abr-2025. ISSN 1699-6011.  https://dx.doi.org/10.58807/temperamentvm20246590.

Nursing, as a profession and discipline, has evolved through values that guide the behavior of nurses, adapting to the needs of each era. This development has been influenced by rationalist and constructivist currents. Although contemporary society emphasizes utility and quantity over quality, nurses have maintained a solid intellectual foundation, based on universal values such as honesty, respect, and empathy. Throughout history, figures like Juan de Dios and Florence Nightingale have transformed nursing, focusing on human dignity and scientific evidence. Currently, nursing stands at a turning point, where citizen science and active participation of society can mark a new milestone in its evolution, promoting the implementation of knowledge responsibly and seeking continuity in scientific progress within the discipline.
