Abstract

This article offers an account of the political and legal process that led to the approval of the Chilean bill on willful abortion under three circumstances: threat for the pregnant woman's life, fetal inviability and rape. It describes and analyzes data on the situation of abortion in the country, provides a brief historical review of the political process and debate on the law, and reflects on the challenges that sexual and reproductive rights still face.
