Introduction: Among the leading preventable causes of death in the battlefield is the hemorrhaging of extremities, hence the importance of the tourniquet, a therapeutic tool utilized in this environment. Aims: The overall objective is to evaluate the efficacy of the tourniquet used by the Army. The specific objectives are to know the influence of different variables on the effectiveness of the tourniquet chosen. Materials and Methods: Analytical, prospective and cross-sectional study, conducted at the Military School of Health in 2014. The sample is 85 student volunteers. The procedure is performed using a Doppler and a pulse oximeter which register the presence of signal of artery pulse in the upper and lower extremities during application of the tourniquet. Results: The percentage of a lack of pulse is 81% and 50% in the upper limb and the lower limb respectly. Conclusion: The Army tourniquet is an option and has a high level of functionality.
