CIQUE-MOYA, A. Antibiotic resistance in a world at war. Sanid. Mil. [online]. 2024, vol.80, n.3, pp.140-144. Epub 05-Mar-2025. ISSN 1887-8571. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/s1887-85712024000300006.
The conflict in Ukraine is having a significant impact on the development of antibiotic resistance. The disruption of health care services, shortages of supplies and lack of access to medicines, coupled with inadequate use of antibiotics in combat-related casualties, mainly polytraumatized, have contributed to an increase in rates of antibiotic resistance in the region. This situation not only endangers the health of the local population, but also poses a global risk, as resistant bacteria can spread beyond their borders. This scenario determines that it is a priority to address this problem in an urgent and coordinated manner throughout the entire process of military operations, implementing strategies that promote the responsible use of antibiotics, both at the hospital level and in the Health Treatment Trainings deployed that provide health care to the sick.
