LOPEZ-PEREZ, Karina  y  DUARTE-CLIMENTS, Gonzalo. ¿Riesgo de caídas o miedo a caerse?. Ene. [online]. 2014, vol.8, n.3. ISSN 1988-348X.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), falls are the second world's cause of death for accidental or not intentional injuries. The related etiology covers different factors and involves a more widespread problem than the fall itself, because it affects the state of mind of the individual and damages his quality of life. Closed to the risk of falls it is often found another concept: the "fear of falling". The fear of falling syndrome (FFS) is a number of signs and symptoms that shows an individual who suffers from the mentioned problem meaning a modifiable frailty marker for the elderly population. Here will be present the clinical case of an 81 year-old-woman who resides and was born in a rural area in North Tenerife. She shows FFS after falling several times in the last six months. The diagnosis to attend her health needs are emphasized within the Bio-Psycho-Social approach in the Psychosocial section: fear and interruption of the familiar processes. Following the standard language of NOC and NIC, sanitary education and facing technique interventions were carried out, with both the patient and the employees of the day centre. Four visits were carried out in six months showing a satisfactory evolution of the patient regarding the selected NOC markers. We recommend that the community and family attention nurse makes a correct study and puts into effect the interventions that help reducing the risk as well as the fear of falling. Given the social and economic impact produced by it in not only in the patients but also in the families and in the sanitary system.

Palabras clave : Falling risk; fear of falling; sanitary education.
