The primary caregiver of the patient dependent and / or immobilized in Primary Health Care is usually, either a direct or near relative of her/him (informal caregiver), or a person hired for that purpose (formal non-professional caregiver).

The objective of this investigation is to study the motivation that exists in the caregivers at the beginning of their care of the dependent patient.

The paradigm shift that has occurred in recent years, with the caregiver as the recipient, instead of provider of caring, is key to understand that the figure of the caregiver is taking a larger role and that recognition from a social and institutional point of view is necessary.
