Drug abuse is considered an increasing issue in present-day society. The main objective is based on the develepment of an explicative onset drug use model. A bibliographic analyses was carried out by the analysis on: Medline, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and Dialnet. The determining factors on drug addiction over time are: need, competence, experience and meaning. In addition basic conditioning factors determined the beginning of drug addiction vulnerability. In conclusión, drug abuse is a form of selfcare because it is a conscious and deliberated act. Additionally to better understand drug addiction, it is necessary to be taken into acount the correlation between: need, competence, basic conditioning factors, experience and meaning.
