Abstract
HERRANZ AGUAYO, Inmaculada; LIRIO CASTRO, Juan; PORTAL MARTINEZ, Esther and ARIAS FERNANDEZ, Enrique. Physical activity as an element of participation and quality of life among elderly people. Escritos de Psicología [online]. 2013, vol.6, n.2, pp.13-19. ISSN 1989-3809. https://dx.doi.org/10.5231/psy.writ.2013.1906.
This study investigated participation in physical activity as an element that improves health and quality of life among elderly people. We present a descriptive analysis using secondary data to explore their attitudes toward physical activity, its frequency, and characteristics. The following categories were analysed: population structure by sex and age; quality of life and perceived health; lifestyles and daily activities; and the characteristics of physical activities among elderly people. To increase the comparative and analytical power of the study, all age ranges were included in each variable. The results highlight the good state of health and high participation in physical activity among elderly people compared to other age groups.
