Patients and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional cohort study was conducted between July 2013 and December 2014, with a sample of 100 patients attended by medical students, residents of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and a tutor of Endocrinology, in University Hospital of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Results: Of all patients, 65% had some difficulty in understanding, 35% properly understood medical guidelines and no patient had inadequate understanding.
