TORRES-BELMA, Alberto  and  VARAS-VARAS, Diego. Concepts regarding the professional role of the physician in students of the course of 'Introduction to Medicine'. FEM (Ed. impresa) [online]. 2019, vol.22, n.1, pp.11-17.  Epub Oct 14, 2019. ISSN 2014-9840.  https://dx.doi.org/10.33588/fem.221.976.

Introduction:

In the subject of 'Introduction to Medicine', corresponding to the first semester of the course of medicine in the University of Antofagasta, aspects related to the role of the physician in medical students are addressed, using active methodologies, such as problem based learning and interviewing a patient.

Aim:

To identify the concepts that the first year's students of medicine associate with the professional work of the physician.

Subjects and methods:

The study design corresponds to a non-experimental research. The study is descriptive. The sample included 35 students from a total of 49, which represents 71.4% of the total.

Results:

In the variable 'profile', concepts show different variations, related to the characteristics of the activities of the subject. In the variable 'specific objectives of the subject', the majority of the answers fall in the category 'completely agree'.

Conclusions:

The vision of medical students about the role of the physician is progressively associated with the specific objectives of the program of the course and those committed in the profile.
