Abstract

BARBERO NARBONA, Eva et al. Comparative study of physical, mental state and quality of life perception related to dyalisis patient health. Enferm Nefrol [online]. 2016, vol.19, n.1, pp.29-35. ISSN 2255-3517.

Patients with stage 5 chronic kidney disease on dialysis have cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and psychosocial disorders that affect their physical and functional capacity. The lack of activity contributes to an increase in mortality and the development of chronic diseases. Quality of life is the subjective evaluation in a multidimensional concept of one's own health. The aim of this study is to evaluate and to analyse the health perceptions, functional capacity, nutritional and psychological status of patients in haemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD). This is a descriptive study which included all dialysis patients in our centre. We designed a database and the data collected were analysed using SPSS 21.The sample size was 42 patients (21 HD-21 DP). The results show a homogeneous group in terms of average age, Barthel index and low albumin levels. Furthermore, HD patients are more sedentary (p< 0,050), and that they feel worse psychologically (p<0,028) and physically (p <0,038). In view of the results obtained, we plan to launch a fitness plan programme to improve patients' health and monitor those diagnosed with possible depression by the Yesavage scale.
