NOGUERA, Unice et al. Virtual or in-person psychological care: a statistical analysis in occupational psychology. Rev Asoc Esp Espec Med Trab [online]. 2025, vol.34, n.1, pp.25-36. Epub 12-Maio-2025. ISSN 3020-1160.
Introduction:
Virtual psychological care eliminates geographical and temporal barriers, a trend accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although effective, it requires a solid ethical framework for proper implementation.
Objectives:
To evaluate the effectiveness of virtual and in-person care in issuing occupational fitness assessments for working at heights.
Material and Methods:
A retrospective study of 353 Colombian workers conducted between April 2023 and January 2024. Variables such as type of care, sex, age, and prior diagnoses were analyzed using logistic regression.
Results:
No significant differences were found between modalities. Factors such as anxiety (coefficient 6.97, p=0.000), education level (coefficient -2.43, p=0.000), and sex (coefficient -1.96, p=0.010) were significantly associated with restrictions. Age (p=0.967), type of care (p=0.558), and alcohol use (p=0.590) were not significant. Participants with anxiety were 6.9 times more likely to be restricted, while higher education reduced restriction likelihood.
Conclusions:
Virtual care is effective and encourages honest reporting of psychological issues but requires clear ethical standards in high-risk contexts.
