Resumo

Objective:
to examine the content of research on violence by patients towards nurses in hospital institutions, population object of the studies, objectives, instruments used, results, recommendations and limitations.
Material and Methods:
systematic review under PRISMA guideline standards. A search was carried out with a cut-off date of October 18, 2023, in MedLine Complete, Academic Search Ultimate, CINAHL, BVS, Science Direct, JStor and Scopus. Equation: (Violence against OR Violence towards OR Incivility OR Aggression OR Mistreatment OR Aggressive Behavior OR Disruptive behavior) AND Nurs* AND patient.
Results:
16 articles were submitted to the review, finding a diversity of methodologies and study variables/categories.
Conclusions:
The largest number of investigations was carried out in psychiatric services. Studies focus on types of violence and their causes, and less on consequences, reporting, prevention and management.
