La respuesta es sencilla. En este artículo se analizan todas las evidencias sobre las acciones que la GH acomete en el endotelio. Las hormonas proangiogénicas y, en concreto, el eje GH/IGF-I son los grandes olvidados en los estudios de neovascularización y no cabe duda de que dicho eje desempeña un papel crucial en la respuesta tras la oclusión de un vaso. Teniendo en cuenta, además, el efecto probado de la GH en la cicatrización de heridas, la terapia con esta hormona podría considerarse una terapia complementaria para mitigar los síntomas de la falta de flujo sanguíneo a nivel de las extremidades inferiores en pacientes sin otras opciones, aunque nunca como terapia aislada ni puntual. Mostraremos un resumen inédito de resultados del estudio GHAS, pionero en administrar GH en pacientes con isquemia. Como conclusión, a pesar de las evidencias, debe investigarse esta vía terapéutica más profundamente, buscando la dosis más eficaz con los menores efectos colaterales, así como la vía de administración más adecuada.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Why should growth hormone (GH) be considered as a promising therapeutic agent for neovascularization in patients with critical limb ischemia? The answer is simple. In this article, all the evidence on the actions of GH on the endothelium will be analyzed. Proangiogenic hormones and, in particular, the GH/IGF-I axis are the great forgotten hormones in studies of neovascularization and there is no doubt that this axis plays a crucial role in the response after vessel occlusion. Given the proven effect of GH on wound healing, GH therapy could be considered as an adjunctive therapy to mitigate the symptoms of poor blood flow in the lower extremities in patients with no other options, but never as a stand-alone or point therapy. We will show a summary of results from the GHAS study with no precedents, pioneer in administering GH in patients with ischemia. In conclusion, despite the evidences, further steps should be taken to investigate this therapeutic approach deeper, looking for the most effective dose with the lowest side effects, as well as the most appropriate route of administration.]]></p></abstract>
