Sin embargo, su consumo ha disminuido en los últimos años, y ha sido sustituida de manera significativa por bebidas vegetales, con características nutricionales y de biodisponibilidad no asimilables.  Objetivos:  actualizar la importancia nutricional de la leche en el contexto actual de la dieta española; evaluar las posibles consecuencias nutricionales del descenso observado en el consumo; desterrar errores y mitos relacionados con el consumo de leches y derivados lácteos.  Métodos:  revisión de bibliografía y exposición de datos propios.  Resultados:  la leche y sus derivados (2-4 raciones/día) se confirman como alimentos clave para una adecuada densidad nutricional y de manera transversal para los diferentes grupos de edad y situaciones fisiológicas, así como en los momentos de consumo. No es posible alcanzar las recomendaciones de ingesta de calcio ni su adecuada biodisponibilidad sin la presencia de este grupo de alimentos en la dieta habitual. La leche es una magnífica matriz que permite, además, la adaptación para situaciones especiales, intolerancias, etc.  Conclusiones:  desde el punto de vista nutricional es necesario recuperar el consumo de leche y derivados lácteos a través de la educación y la información basada en la evidencia científica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction:  milk and milk products are considered key products to follow an adequate ans affordable diet in the present context. However, the consumption is declining in the last years, being mainly replaced by vegetable drinks with a different nutrient profile and bioavailability.  Objectives:  to update the importance of milk in the present Spanish diet to achieve the nutrition goals; to evaluate the potential consequences of the observed lower consumption, mainly in some vulnerable groups; to avoid misinformation and errors in relation to milk consumption.  Methods:  review of bibliography and recent dietary surveys in Spain.  Results:  milk and milk products (2-4 daily servings) are confirmed key for a better and affordable high nutrient density diet. Moreover, if it is not present in the diet, calcium recommended intakes will not be achieved. Milk is a singular food matrix for the development of different formulas and adaptations targeted to special populations.  Conclusions:  it is critical from the nutritional point of view to recover the adequate milk and milk products consumption, through the education, but also by the information based on the scientific evidence.]]></p></abstract>
