Métodos: Fue una investigación de tipo básica, no experimental, correlacional y transversal. Tuvo una población de 1422 tomografías y después de verificarlos criterios de inclusión se tuvo una muestra de 293 tomografías obteniéndose 475 terceros molares para realizar el estudio. Se utilizó el programa de software de imágenes tridimensionales CS. Fue realizada una prueba piloto con el fin de verificar el grado de concordancia donde usó la verificación estadística Kappa, dando una tasa de 0,88.  Resultados: Se encontró que el 41,7% de los molares tuvieron contacto con el canal mandibular y estaban ubicados inferiormente (48,2%).  Conclusiones: Los resultados del presente estudio demuestran que existe una relación estadísticamente significativa entre el contacto del ápice del tercer molar y la ubicación del canal mandibular.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction: Mandibular third molars are frequently impacted, motivating its surgical removal, can injure the inferior dental nerve.  Methods: It was a basic, non-experimental, correlational and cross-sectional research. It had a population of 1422 tomographies and after verifying the inclusion criteria, a sample of 293 tomographies was taken, obtaining 475 third molars to carry out the study. Used three-dimensional imaging software program CS. A pilot test was performed in order to verify the degree of concordance using the Kappa statistical verification, giving a rate of 0.88.  Results: It was found that 41.7% of the molars had contact with the mandibular canal and were located inferiorly (48.2%).  Conclusions: The results of the present study show that there is a statistically significant relationship between the apex contact of the third molar and the location of the mandibular canal.]]></p></abstract>
