Metodología: Estudio experimental, transversal, comparativo y prospectivo, se evaluó la microdureza de 30 discos de resina compuesta de nanorelleno (FiltekTM Z350 XT, 3M ESPE, EE. UU.) Antes y después del uso de los agentes de aclaramiento. El diseño constó de tres grupos experimentales, un grupo control, un grupo con peróxido de carbamida al 16%, y otro con peróxido de hidrógeno al 35%.  Resultados: La mayor reducción de micro dureza se encontró en el grupo al que se le aplicó el agente de aclaramiento de peróxido de hidrógeno al 35%. También se encontró que al comparar el promedio de la diferencia de la micro dureza antes y después de la aplicación de los agentes de aclaramiento y control se obtuvo una diferencia estadísticamente significativa (&lt;0,001) entre estos grupos con la prueba de ANOVA. Y luego de aplicar la prueba post hoc de Tukey se pudo obtener diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre el peróxido de carbamida al 16% y el control (&lt;0,001); así como también entre el peróxido de hidrógeno al 35% y el control (&lt;0,001).  Conclusión: la micro dureza de las resinas compuestas fue influenciada, disminuyendo significativamente por ambos procedimientos de blanqueamiento dental utilizados en el presente estudio.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Objetivo: To compare the effect of two whitening agents on the surface microhardness of a composite resin.  Methodology: Experimental, cross-sectional, comparative and prospective study, the microhardness of 30 nanofilled composite resin discs (FiltekTM Z350 XT, 3M ESPE, USA) was evaluated before and after the use of whitening agents. The design consisted of three experimental groups, a control group, a group with 16% carbamide peroxide, and another with 35% hydrogen peroxide.  Results: The greatest reduction in microhardness was found in the group to which the 35% hydrogen peroxide bleaching agent was applied. It was also found that when comparing the average of the difference in microhardness before and after the application of the lightening and control agents, a statistically significant difference (&lt;0.001) was obtained between these groups with the ANOVA test. And after applying Tukey&#8217;s post hoc test, statistically significant differences could be obtained between 16% carbamide peroxide and the control (&lt;0.001); as well as between 35% hydrogen peroxide and control (&lt;0.001).  Conclusion: the microhardness of the composite resins was influenced, decreasing significantly by both dental whitening procedures used in the present study.]]></p></abstract>
