Si bien los deportistas de élite o alto rendimiento se someten a rigurosas pruebas médicas, parecen existir ciertos aspectos, como la salud oral que en ocasiones no estaría lo suficientemente controlada. El efecto que presenta el deporte sobre la salud oral puede conllevar diversas alteraciones, como por ejemplo en la situación salivar. La saliva permite entre otras funciones proteger la cavidad oral, por lo que una modificación de la misma podría provocar alteraciones del pH oral, que podría incrementar el riesgo de padecer diversas patologías orales. Se pretende comprobar la situación bucodental en 27 deportistas masculinos que compiten en las disciplinas de remo y piragüismo que se ejercitan en la ciudad de San Sebastián, así como estudiar los efectos que conlleva el deporte de competición en el pH salival.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[SUMMARY Competitive sports have various effects on the athlete's general health. Although elite or high-performance athletes undergo rigorous medical tests, there seem to be certain aspects, such as oral health, that are sometimes not sufficiently controlled. The effect that sport has on oral health can lead to various alterations, such as the salivary situation. Saliva allows, among other functions, to protect the oral cavity, so a modification of it could cause alterations in oral pH, which could increase the risk of suffering from various oral pathologies. The aim is to verify the oral situation in 27 male athletes who compete in the rowing and canoeing disciplines that exercise in the city of San Sebastián, as well as to study the effects of competitive sports on salivary pH.]]></p></abstract>
