La cavidad bucal humana es el hábitat de la comunidad microbiana oral. La complejidad de su anatomía, su conexión con el mundo exterior y su ambiente húmedo conducen a la complejidad y especificidad del dominio ecológico de las comunidades microbianas que la colonizan.  Objetivo:  recopilar información de la principal microbiota de la cavidad oral expuesta en trabajos de investigación comparándolos haciendo énfasis en describir su morfología y fisiología.  Metodología:  Se seleccionaron artículos científicos en inglés y español publicados entre los años 2018 y 2022, obtenidos a través de las bases de datos ScienceDirect, PubMed además de otras con nivel universitario, mediante criterios de inclusión y exclusión se seleccionaron 40 artículos de los 120 encontrados.  Resultados:  se encontró que la microbiota bucal está compuesta por 12 filos, la clasificación está dada por bacterias en grupos GRAM+ y GRAM-, asimismo se encontró que la mayoría de estos microorganismos son causantes de enfermedades sistémicas.  Conclusión:  se comprobó la hipótesis confirmando que la mayoría de bacterias del género Streptococcus, Porphyromonas y Staphylococcus son las que tienen mucha más incidencia en la cavidad oral, siendo los principales componentes de la placa dental, así como causantes de enfermedades de nivel sistémico.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The microbiota is made up of communities of commensal or pathogenic microorganisms that inhabit our body. The human oral cavity is the habitat of the oral microbial community. The complexity of its anatomy, its connection with the outside world and its humid environment lead to the complexity and specificity of the ecological domain of the microbial communities that colonize it.  Objective:  to collect information on the main microbiota of the oral cavity exposed in research works, comparing them with emphasis on describing their morphology and physiology.  Methodology:  Scientific articles in English and Spanish published between 2018 and 2022 were selected, obtained through the databases ScienceDirect, PubMed as well as others with a university level, using inclusion and exclusion criteria, 40 articles were selected from the 120 found.  Results:  it was found that the oral microbiota is composed of 12 phyla, the classification is given by bacteria in GRAM+ and GRAM- groups, it was also found that the majority of these microorganisms are causes of systemic diseases.  Conclusion:  the hypothesis was proven, confirming that the majority of bacteria of the genus Streptococcus, Porphyromonas and Staphylococcus are those that have much more incidence in the oral cavity, being the main components of dental plaque, as well as causing systemic diseases.]]></p></abstract>
