La causa exacta del SMB sigue siendo desconocida, con una incidencia aproximada del 0.002% entre los recién nacidos. Se trata de una condición notable en los primeros días de vida y la mayoría de los casos no puede mostrar ningún tipo de expresión facial como sonreír, fruncir el ceño o levantar las cejas. Presentamos una paciente con SMB que, de tener parálisis facial bilateral, muestra nuevamente movimiento de todas las ramas del nervio facial tras 5 aplicaciones de plasma rico en plaquetas (PRP) en sitios positivos para scratch-collapse test. Gracias a esto observamos una sonrisa simétrica, ausencia de sialorrea y habla normal que llevaron a una mejoría importante en su interacción social y autoestima.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Moebius syndrome (MBS) is a non-progressive congenital condition involving palsies of the facial (VII) and abducens (VI) cranial nerves, characterized by bilateral facial paralysis and convergent strabismus. The exact cause of MBS remains unknown, with an approximate incidence of 0.002% among newborns. This condition in notable in the first days of life and most of the people with MBS cannot show any type of facial expression such as smiling, frowning or raising their eyebrows. We present the case of a patient with MBS who, despite having bilateral facial paralysis, regains movement of all the branches of the facial nerve after 5 applications of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in positive sites for the scratch-collapse test. Thanks to this, a symmetrical smile, absence of hypersalivation, and normal speech were observed, which led to a significant improvement in her social interaction and self-esteem.]]></p></abstract>
