Siguiendo la investigación de datos publicada en 2020, La Federación Ibero Latinoamericana de Cirugía Plástica (FILACP) realizó una nueva encuesta en 2024 con el objetivo de actualizar y comparar las tendencias en cirugía mamaria con implantes entre los miembros de sus 22 sociedades nacionales y ver la evolución de un estudio continuado en el tiempo, que se inició en 2010.  Material y método. Se diseñó una encuesta estructurada en 30 preguntas, distribuida electrónicamente a más de 9.000 cirujanos plásticos miembros de la FILACP. Estuvo disponible entre el 12 de noviembre y el 20 de diciembre de 2024. Se recopilaron 780 respuestas completas que fueron analizadas cuantitativa y comparativamente respecto a las encuestas previas.  Resultados. Los resultados muestran una preferencia entre los encuestados por el uso de implantes redondos, de tamaño moderado (250-350 cc), de superficie micro o nanotexturizada. La vía submamaria para la colocación de los implantes superó a la periareolar como la más utilizada, y la ubicación de los mismos en el plano retromuscular sigue siendo la más frecuente. El 95.3% de los encuestados entrega consentimiento informado a sus pacientes y el 98.5% les entrega también la tarjeta identificativa del implante. La tasa de seguimiento postoperatorio al año es del 80.3% entre los encuestados. Solo el 7.3% ha diagnosticado algún caso de linfoma anaplásico de células grandes asociado a implantes mamarios (LACG-AIM), y en la cirugía secundaria, el 64.7% envía la cápsula periprotésica a estudio anatomopatológico. Se exploró por primera vez la frecuencia de explantación definitiva entre los cirujanos del ámbito geográfico de la FILACP, y si bien la incidencia de explantaciones protésicas no es muy alta, el temor a las nuevas patologías relacionadas con los implantes fue el principal motivo reportado (31.9%).  Conclusiones. La encuesta 2024 confirma la evolución entre los cirujanos plásticos de la FILACP hacia prácticas más seguras, personalizadas y fundamentadas en evidencia. También muestra la creciente influencia de factores sociales y perceptivos en la demanda de explantaciones. Estos hallazgos ofrecen una valiosa radiografía de la práctica actual y sirven como guía para futuras acciones educativas, clínicas y regulatorias en la región de la FILACP, y por extensión, en otros ámbitos geográficos internacionales. <abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background and objective. Following data research published in 2020, the Ibero-Latin American Federation of Plastic Surgery (FILACP) conducted a new survey in 2024 with the aim of updating and comparing trends in breast implant surgery among members of its 22 national societies and assessing the evolution of a long-standing study that began in 2010.  Methods. A structured survey consisting of 30 questions was designed and distributed electronically to more than 9.000 FILACP members plastic surgeons. It was available between November 12 and December 20, 2024. A total of 780 complete responses were collected and analyzed quantitatively and comparatively with respect to previous surveys.  Results. The results show a preference among respondents for the use of round, moderate-sized implants (250-350 cc) with a micro or nanotextured surface. The submammary approach for implant placement surpassed the periareolar approach as the most commonly used, and retromuscular placement remains the most common. 95.3% of those surveyed provided informed consent to their patients, and 98.5% also provided them with the implant identification card. The one-year postoperative follow-up rate was 80.3% among those surveyed.Only 7.3% had diagnosed a case of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), and in secondary surgery, 64.7% sent the periprosthetic capsule for pathological examination. The frequency of definitive explantation among surgeons within the FILACP geographic area was explored for the first time. Although the incidence of prosthetic explantation is not very high, fear of new implant-related pathologies was the main reason reported (31.9%).  Conclusions. The 2024 survey confirms the evolution among FILACP plastic surgeons toward safer, more personalized, and evidence-based practices. It also shows the growing influence of social and perceptual factors on the demand for explants. These findings offer a valuable snapshot of current practice and serve as a guide for future educational, clinical, and regulatory actions in the FILACP region, and by extension, in other international geographic areas.
