Las técnicas utilizadas en la actualidad para la formación microquirúrgica requieren tiempo, esfuerzo y dinero, por lo que se deben ofrecer herramientas alternativas que faciliten el desarrollo de habilidades de forma continua. El objetivo del presente trabajo es establecer las diferencias de tiempo y destreza entre el uso del teléfono inteligente y microscopio óptico para la obtención de habilidades microquirúrgicas básicas.  Material y método. Estudio comparativo en el que participaron 10 residentes de primer año de la especialidad de Cirugía General del Estado de Chihuahua, Chihuahua (México) asignados a 2 grupos: un grupo control que realizó prácticas bajo microscopio y un grupo a estudiar que las hizo empleando un teléfono inteligente. Ambos grupos trabajaron durante 6 horas, teniendo una evaluación inicial y final.  Resultados. A pesar de tener una diferencia inicial entre los 2 grupos, desde la práctica diagnóstica (p =0.00252) ambos presentaron una diferencia significativa en relación con la evaluación inicial y final de las prácticas a favor del grupo que empleó el teléfono inteligente, obteniendo una diferencia significativa en relación con el tiempo para realizar la práctica observando una disminución (p= 0.0001597), y en relación con la puntuación de la escala SMaRT encontrando un mayor valor (p= 0.00000674).  Conclusiones. Tomando en cuenta las limitantes y debido a la mejora en relación de tiempos y puntuación de SMaRT obtenidas en nuestro estudio, desde nuestra experiencia creemos recomendable realizar prácticas con teléfono inteligente, y considerar esta opción como una herramienta útil para la obtención de habilidades microquirúrgicas básicas. <abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background and objective. Current techniques used for microsurgical training require time, effort, and financial resources. Therefore, alternative tools should be provided to facilitate the continuous development of surgical skills. The objective of our study is to establish the differences in time and dexterity between using a SMaRTphone and a microscope for acquiring basic microsurgical skills.  Methods. Comparative study involving 10 first-year General Surgery residents from the state of Chihuahua, Chihuahua (Mexico), who were assigned to groups: the control one practiced using a conventional optic microscope, while the second study group used a SMaRTphone. Both groups performed their practice sessions over a 6 hour period, with an initial and final evaluation.  Results. Despite an initial difference between the 2 groups in the diagnostic practice (p = 0.00252), both groups showed a significant difference between the initial and final evaluations of their practice sessions, favoring the group that used the smartphone. A significant reduction in practice time was observed (p = 0.0001597), and the SMaRT scale score was significantly higher (p = 0.00000674).  Conclusions. Considering the study limitations and the improvements in time efficiency and SMaRT scores observed in our results, from our experience we recommend conducting training using a SMaRTphone.
