En la actualidad, los avances tecnológicos como la realidad virtual aumentada y mixta, han transformado los métodos educativos tradicionales, especialmente en el entrenamiento quirúrgico. Estas herramientas fortalecen el desarrollo de habilidades, complementan la experiencia quirúrgica de especialistas y residentes, mejoran la comunicación de equipos de trabajo y aumentan la seguridad en los pacientes. Sin embargo, se necesita mayor promoción y adopción de estas tecnologías para su implementación en programas académicos universitarios. Por ello, el objetivo de este manuscrito es mostrar el progreso y el alcance de tecnologías de simulación en Cirugía Plástica por medio de una revisión de la literatura.  Material y método. Revisión de la literatura disponible en las bases de datos PubMed, Embase, ClinicalKey y Medline, utilizando los términos: cirugía plástica, realidad virtual, realidad aumentada, interfaz usuario-computador, tecnología háptica y simulación. Se incluyeron todos los estudios publicados en inglés y español en el periodo 2010 a 2023.  Resultados. Tras aplicar criterios de inclusión y exclusión, seleccionamos 32 artículos que fueron analizados en profundidad permitiendo una visión integral de la evidencia disponible sobre el uso de tecnologías inmersivas en Cirugía Plástica.  Conclusiones. La realidad mixta es una herramienta valiosa para fortalecer el entrenamiento quirúrgico, permitiendo una práctica segura y objetiva. Su integración en los programas de cirugía representa una oportunidad para innovar en la enseñanza, aunque no reemplaza por completo la educación tradicional. <abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background and objective. Nowadays, technological advances such as virtual, augmented and mixed reality have transformed traditional educational methods, especially in surgical training. These tools strengthen the development of skills, complement the surgical experience of specialists and residents, improve team communication, and increase patient safety. However, further promotion and adoption of these technologies is needed for their implementation in university academic programs. Therefore, the aim of this manuscript is to show the progress and scope of simulation technologies in Plastic Surgery through a literature review.  Methods. A review of the literature available in the databases PubMed, Embase, ClinicalKey and Medline was performed using the terms: plastic surgery, virtual reality, augmented reality, user-computer interface, haptic technology and simulation. All studies published in English and Spanish in the period from 2010 to 2023 were included.  Results. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 32 articles were selected. These studies were analyzed in depth allowing a comprehensive view of the available evidence on the use of immersive technologies in Plastic Surgery.  Conclusions. Mixed reality is a valuable tool to strengthen surgical training, allowing a safe and objective practice.
