Abstract This article addresses the growing relevance of human-animal interaction in the postoperative stages of Plastic Surgery. While dog visits to hospitalized patients have been associated with improved mood and recovery and companion animals provide emotional support and social connection, it is equally important to consider potential risks such as zoonotic infections and surgical site trauma. We present an illustrative case to propose an individualized approach that includes preoperative assessment, patient education and preventive strategies aimed at balancing the benefits and risks of pet interaction during the postoperative period to ensure a safe and successful recovery. In the absence of specific guidelines, controlled prospective studies around this topic are recommended to enhance patient safety. Level of evidence 4d Therapeutic
</abstract>
