La artrocentesis (AC) de la ATM es un procedimiento mínimamente invasivo al que puede asociarse la inyección intrarticular de diversas sustancias terapéuticas, entre ellas los corticoides (CS), sin que exista en la actualidad consenso sobre cuál ofrece los mejores resultados. Con esta revisión se quiere evaluar si el uso de la AC asociada a la inyección intrarticular de CS proporciona mejores resultados en cuanto a reducció­n del dolor y mejoría de la función mandibular en pacientes con trastornos de la ATM en comparación con otros tratamientos.  Material y métodos:  Siguiendo el protocolo de las guías PRISMA, y tras aplicar unos criterios de inclusión y exclusión establecidos previamente, se ha realizado una revisión sistemática de los artículos existentes en PubMed enfocados en el uso de CS asociado a la AC de la ATM publicados en los últimos 10 años.  Resultados:  Un total de 167 artículos fueron obtenidos tras la búsqueda inicial, de los cuales finalmente 10 se incluyeron en la revisión, comprendiendo 366 pacientes (424 articulaciones). Entre los estudios revisados existe una gran heterogeneidad tanto en los diagnósticos como en los protocolos de tratamiento, lo que hace difícil la comparación de los resultados.  Conclusiones:  Según los estudios analizados, la AC por sí misma es suficiente para obtener buenos resultados en el tratamiento de los trastornos de la ATM. El uso de CS intrarticulares asociado a la AC no aporta beneficios respecto a realizar la AC sola ni ofrece mejores resultados que otras sustancias utilizadas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction:  The treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders is still controversial. TMJ arthrocentesis (AC) is a minimally invasive procedure that can be associated with the intra-articular injection of various therapeutic drugs, including corticosteroids (CS), with no current consensus on which offers the best results. The aim of this review is to evaluate if the use of AC associated with intra-articular injection of CS provides better results in terms of pain reduction and improvement of mandibular function in patients with TMJ disorders compared to other treatments.  Material and methods:  Following the protocol on the PRISMA guidelines and after applying previously established inclusion and exclusion criteria, a systematic review has been carried out of the existing articles in PubMed which have been published in the last 10 years and focus on the use of CS associated with AC of the TMJ.  Results:  A total of 167 articles were obtained after the initial search, of which 10 were finally included in the review. They involve a total of 366 patients (424 joints). The heterogeneity of diagnoses and treatment protocols of the studies reviewed makes it difficult to compare the results.  Conclusions:  According to this review, AC by itself is sufficient to obtain good results in the treatment of TMJ disorders. The use of intra-articular CS associated with AC does not provide benefits compared to performing AC alone and results in similar findings to other terapeutic drugs.]]></p></abstract>
