Metodología: Estudio cuantitativo, correlacional, transversal. Participaron 134 estudiantes (U). Se utilizó la escala de Aprendizaje Autodirigido (EPAI) de Fisher, Tague y King, Escala de Motivación académica (AMS), y un cuestionario para obtener datos para caracterizar la muestra. Para el análisis de datos se utilizó el soft-ware SPSS. 0.19.  Resultados principales: Existió una asociación estadísticamente significativa entre el aprendizaje autodirigido con la motivación intrínseca con estimulación de la experiencia, hacia el logro y a saber y con motivación extrínseca de regulación identificada; y la motivación tuvo una asociación inversamente proporcional.  Conclusión principal: Los estudiantes más autodeterminados, es decir, los que tienen mayores motivaciones intrínsecas son los que tienen mayor nivel de autonomía.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Objective: Analyse the relation between self-directed learning and academic motivation in nursing students.  Methods: Quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional study. 134 students participated (U). The Self-Directed Learning Scale (SDLR) of Fisher, Tague&amp; King, the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) and the socio-demographic questionnaire were used,to characterize the sample. The SPSS software is used to analyze the data. 0.19.  Results: There was a statistically significant association between self-directed learning with: intrinsic motivation with stimulation of the experience towards achievement and knowledge, and with extrinsic motivation of identified regulation; and the demotivation had an inversely proportional association.  Conclusions: The most self-determined students, that is, those with the highest intrinsic motivations, had the highest level of autonomy.]]></p></abstract>
