</abstract>

<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
Abstract This article aims to discuss how the concept of neuroethics has been understood and approached in different areas of knowledge. An integrative review of the literature was made in order to find the concepts of neuroethics most used in the neuroethics literature. The period analyzed was from 2002 to 2023, resulting in 283 articles, selected in the review in pairs, according to the established criteria. Six previously defined methodological steps were used. The definition of neuroethics took place in 2002 at the event Neuroethics: Mapping the Field. It was identified that there is no established definition for what is neuroethics, as well as its approach and distance from bioethics. If understood as neuroscience ethics, then there is no obvious support for neuroethics to be classified independently from bioethics, thus, there is theoretical and practical congruence between both. But if it is classified as the neuroscience of ethics, it distances itself from bioethics, so it needs to be carefully analyzed and discussed, because it is an aspect with significant ethical barriers in relation to the foundations of bioethics.
</abstract>
