<self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.isciii.es/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S1887-85712023000400005&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.isciii.es/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S1887-85712023000400005&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.isciii.es/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S1887-85712023000400005&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN  Antecedentes y objetivos: la diverticulitis aguda es una de las patologías abdominales más frecuentes, siendo necesario para el diagnóstico una prueba de imagen que, tradicionalmente, ha sido la tomografía computarizada; sin embargo, cada vez hay mayor evidencia de que la ecografía abdominal podría ser también igualmente eficaz. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la utilidad clínica de la ecografía abdominal como modalidad de imagen de primera línea para el diagnóstico de diverticulitis aguda izquierda no complicada con manejo ambulatorio.  Material y métodos: se realizó un estudio observacional de cohortes retrospectivo con muestreo consecutivo no probabilístico en un hospital terciario que incluyó a todos los pacientes con diagnóstico de diverticulitis aguda izquierda no complicada confirmada por imagen y que se manejaron de forma ambulante durante un periodo de dos años.  Resultados: fueron incluidos ciento tres pacientes, el 54,37 % diagnosticados mediante ecografía y el 46,63 % mediante tomografía computarizada, siendo el manejo ambulatorio exitoso en el 94,2 % (n = 97), con solo seis reingresos (5,8 %), sin diferencias entre las técnicas de imagen (p = 0,09). No se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas en la tasa de fracaso del tratamiento ambulatorio entre los grupos (p &gt;0,05).  Conclusiones: la ecografía abdominal es una técnica segura y factible que podría utilizarse como técnica de imagen de primera línea para el diagnóstico de la diverticulitis aguda izquierda no complicada cuando es realizada por un operador experto. Además, en los casos aptos para el manejo ambulatorio, presentó un éxito de tratamiento similar y sin más reingresos que los diagnosticados por tomografía computarizada.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[SUMMARY  Background and aims: acute diverticulitis is one of the most frequent gastrointestinal diseases classically diagnosed by computed tomography as a mandatory imagining technique; there is, however, increasing evidence that abdominal ultrasound may be, at least, as useful as computed tomography. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical utility of abdominal ultrasound as a first-line imaging technique for the diagnosis of acute left-sided diverticulitis suitable for ambulatory management.  Material and methods: a retrospective observational cohort study with consecutive non-random sampling was performed at a third level hospital, including all patients with diagnosis of acute left-sided diverticulitis confirmed by imaging technique and subsequent outpatient management within a 2-year period.  Results: a total of 103 patients were included, 54.37 % diagnosed by abdominal ultrasound and 46.63 % by computed tomography. Ambulatory management was successful in 94.2 % (n = 97) of the cases, with only 6 readmissions (5.8 %), no difference between imaging techniques was observed. There was no statistically significant differences in the ambulatory management failure rate between both groups (p &gt;0.05).  Conclusions: abdominal ultrasound is a safe and feasible technique that could be used as a first-line imaging technique for the diagnosis of non-complicated acute left-sided diverticulitis when performed by an expert operator. Moreover, in outpatient management, it presented similar clinical success and no higher readmission rate than those diagnosed by computed tomography.]]></p></abstract>
