Se aporta información sobre el estado actual de la investigación en las FAS y se contrastan hipótesis sobre su incidencia en la población general y en el personal militar, incluyendo un enfoque específico en la mujer.  Material y métodos: Se realizó una revisión de la literatura científica y un análisis de la prevalencia de la fatiga en poblaciones militares y no militares a nivel nacional e internacional. Se hicieron análisis de datos para comparar la incidencia de la fatiga en el personal militar en relación con otras profesiones de riesgo, así como para evaluar su impacto en poblaciones específicas (i. e. personal sanitario (médicos, enfermeros, cuidadores), pilotos y tripulantes de vuelo, trabajadores de turnos rotativos o nocturnos y profesionales expuestos a estrés laboral elevado).  Resultados: La fatiga afecta de manera significativa al personal militar, con una prevalencia superior en comparación con la población general y otras profesiones de riesgo. Se observa que, estadísticamente, las mujeres en las FAS tienen mayor propensión a experimentar fatiga que los hombres, lo cual coincide con estudios previos en la población general.  Discusión: La fatiga en el personal militar no desplegado se asocia con factores específicos del entorno operativo, como alteraciones del ritmo circadiano, condiciones extremas y alta demanda emocional. La investigación sobre la fatiga en las Fuerzas Armadas debería enfocarse en su prevención y gestión, así como en el desarrollo de métodos de evaluación más robustos que integren enfoques fisiológicos y psicológicos.  Conclusiones: Se subraya la importancia de abordar la fatiga en el personal militar desde una perspectiva multidimensional, integrando aspectos biológicos, psicológicos y ocupacionales. Se recomienda fomentar la investigación sobre la fatiga en las FAS, con una perspectiva de género, para implementar intervenciones efectivas que mejoren el bienestar y el rendimiento operativo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Background: This study has an exploratory purpose and also aims to raise interest within the Military Medical Corps regarding the multidisciplinary approach to fatigue. It provides information on the current state of research in the Armed Forces and compares hypotheses about its incidence in the general population and military personnel, including a specific focus on women.  Material and Methods: A review of the scientific literature was conducted, along with an analysis of the prevalence of fatigue in both military and nonmilitary populations at national and international levels. Data analyses were performed to compare the incidence of fatigue among military personnel relative to other high-risk professions, as well as to assess its impact on specific populations (e. g., healthcare personnel such as doctors, nurses, and caregivers; pilots and flight crew members; shift workers, including those with rotating or night shifts; and professionals exposed to high occupational stress).  Results: Fatigue significantly affects military personnel, with a higher prevalence compared to the general population and other high-risk professions. Statistically, women in the Armed Forces show a greater propensity to experience fatigue than men, which aligns with previous studies in the general population.  Discussion: Fatigue in nondeployed military personnel is associated with specific operational environment factors, such as circadian rhythm disturbances, extreme conditions, and high emotional demand. Research on fatigue within our Armed Forces should focus on its prevention and management, as well as on the development of more robust assessment methods that integrate both physiological and psychological approaches.  Conclusions: The importance of addressing fatigue in military personnel from a multidimensional perspective is emphasized, integrating biological, psychological, and occupational aspects. It is recommended to promote research on fatigue in the Armed Forces, incorporating a gender perspective, to implement effective interventions that enhance wellbeing and operational performance.]]></p></abstract>
