Normalmente, la contribución de otros tejidos, como el intestino o el riÑón es mucho menor, aunque la placenta es una fuente importante durante el embarazo. La elevación de la FA suele, por tanto, ser indicativa de enfermedad hepática u ósea. El análisis de otras enzimas hepáticas, y en particular la GGT (elevada en caso de lesión hepática y normal en las enfermedades óseas), suele aclarar el origen. En caso de duda, se puede medir la isoforma ósea o hacer un perfil de todas las isoenzimas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Most serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) (&gt; 90 %) originates from the liver and bone. Normally, the contribution from other tissues, such as the intestine or kidney, is much smaller, although the placenta is an important source during pregnancy. Elevated ALP levels are usually indicative of liver or bone disease. The analysis of other liver enzymes, particularly GGT&#8212;which is elevated in liver damage and normal in bone diseases&#8212;usually clarifies the origin. When in doubt, the bone isoform can be measured, or a profile of all isoenzymes can be conducted.]]></p></abstract>
