</abstract>

With the technological development of the last years, their presence, fidelity level and didactic potential have increased. In order to have teaching strategies that take into account these complexities and update and improve the quality of learning, a bibliographic search was carried out on historical models and modern trends in the design and management of these activities, and a training model and an ad hoc protocol were built to guide simulation instructors by defining strategies for each of the phases of the simulated activity. Both tools have been applied in complex dentistry skills workshops at the Universidad Europea de Madrid for a period of more than three years.
</abstract>
