Objetivo:  identificar los principales factores de riesgo de sufrir un accidente biológico en los profesionales sanitarios. Como objetivos secundarios, identificar personas o colectivos más vulnerables y establecer si alguno de los factores de riesgo detectados es modificable.  Material y Métodos:  revisión sistemática siguiendo las normas de la guía PRISMA. La búsqueda se realizó el 22 de octubre de 2023, en PubMed y Cochrane Central: (biological accident) AND (risk factors)) AND (healthcare workers).  Resultados:  se incluyen 15 estudios observacionales; 9 basan sus resultados en cuestionarios realizados a profesionales, y 6 obtienen sus resultados de los registros de hospitales o de registros regionales o nacionales. Los estudios miden factores de riesgo diferentes, lo que dificulta la comparación de resultados, pero aporta información sobre muchos aspectos relacionados con los accidentes biológicos.  Conclusiones:  el mayor número de accidentes biológicos se produce en mujeres y en personal de enfermería. Tienen un mayor riesgo el personal en formación, personal con poco tiempo de experiencia en el puesto y trabajadores del área quirúrgica. La incorrecta eliminación de residuos, y la mala utilización de sistemas de protección individual y dispositivos de bioseguridad, junto con la falta de formación son factores de riesgo modificables sobre los que se debe incidir.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Objective:  to identify the main risk factors for suffering a biological accident in healthcare professionals. Secondary objectives: to identify the most vulnerable people or groups and to establish whether any of the risk factors detected are modifiable.  Material and Methods:  systematic review following the PRISMA guidelines. The search was conducted on 22 October 2023, in PubMed and Cochrane Central: ((biological accident) AND (risk factors)) AND (healthcare workers).  Results:  15 observational studies were included; 9 based their results on questionnaires to professionals and 6 obtained their results from hospital registers or regional or national registers. The studies measured different risk factors, making it difficult to compare the results, but provided information on many aspects of biological accidents.  Conclusions:  the highest number of biological accidents occurs in women and nursing staff. Trainees, staff with little experience in the job and surgical staff are at higher risk. Incorrect waste disposal, poor use of personal protection systems and biosafety devices, together with lack of training are modifiable risk factors that need to be addressed.]]></p></abstract>
