Ambas condiciones provocan respuestas inflamatorias e inmunológicas que resultan en un aumento de biomarcadores como PCR, TNF-a, IL-6, IL-8, IL-ß, IL-10, entre otros. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo explorar la relación entre la inflamación local de la EP y la inflamación sistémica en las ENT, a través del análisis de diversos biomarcadores y su variación después del tratamiento periodontal no quirúrgico (TPNQ).  Material y Métodos: se realizó una búsqueda electrónica en las bases de datos PubMed, Scopus y Web of Science enfocada en estudios clínicos aleatorizados que involucraran sujetos con EP y alguna ENT, tratados con TPNQ. Estos estudios debían incluir un análisis de biomarcadores en suero y/o fluido crevicular gingival (FCG) y un seguimiento clínico mínimo de un mes, publicados en inglés o español en los últimos 15 años. Para el análisis cualitativo, se evaluó cada estudio utilizando la herramienta de colaboración de Cochrane para Revisiones Sistemáticas.  Resultados: se seleccionaron 29 ensayos clínicos aleatorizados que relacionaban la EP con las siguientes ENT: Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 (DMt2)/Síndrome Metabólico (SMet), enfermedades cardiovasculares (ECV), artritis reumatoide (AR) y el embarazo. Los estudios incluidos evaluaron parámetros clínicos periodontales, biomarcadores en suero, fluido crevicular gingival y/o saliva, y algunos consideraron parámetros sistémicos de las ENT.  Conclusiones: los resultados obtenidos y la evidencia actual indican que la inflamación local asociada a la periodontitis y la inflamación sistémica en las ENT están interconectadas a través de diversos biomarcadores. Por lo tanto, el tratamiento de la EP podría contribuir a la reducción de los niveles de estos marcadores inflamatorios.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction: Periodontal disease (PD) and non-communicable diseases (NCD) share a state of chronic and imbalanced inflammation. Both conditions cause inflammatory and immunological responses that result in an increase in biomarkers such as CRP, TNF-a, IL-6, IL-8, IL-ß, IL-10, among others. This study aimed to explore the relationship between local inflammation in PD and systemic inflammation in NCDs, through the analysis of various biomarkers and their variation after non-surgical periodontal treatment (NSPT).  Material and Methods: An electronic search was performed in the PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases focused on randomized clinical studies involving subjects with PD and any NCD, treated with NPT. These studies had to include an analysis of biomarkers in serum and/or gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and a minimum clinical follow-up of one month, published in English or Spanish in the last 15 years. For qualitative analysis, each study was assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration Tool for Systematic Reviews.  Results: 29 randomized clinical trials were selected that related PD to the following NCDs: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM)/Metabolic Syndrome (MetS), cardiovascular diseases (CVD), rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and pregnancy. The included studies evaluated periodontal clinical parameters, serum biomarkers, gingival crevicular fluid and/or saliva, and some considered systemic parameters of NCDs.  Conclusions: The results obtained and current evidence indicate that local inflammation associated with periodontitis and systemic inflammation in NCDs are interconnected through various biomarkers. Therefore, treatment of PD could contribute to the reduction of the levels of these inflammatory markers.]]></p></abstract>
