LUQUE VADILLO, Emilia et al. Evaluation of an educational programme aimed at school children on donating organs. Rev Soc Esp Enferm Nefrol [online]. 2006, vol.9, n.3, pp.25-29. ISSN 1139-1375.

There are two aspects that play a part in organ donation: one is the refusal of the family and the other is the cultural level of the families. Over eight years, our hospital unit has developed health information and dissemination campaigns aimed mainly at sensitising the population on the importance of organ donation for the community. These campaigns have been carried out through an Educational Programme aimed at school children from 16 to 18. The aim of the study is to evaluate the Educational Programme since its beginnings in 1997 to the present day and to transmit our experience in giving health education to the community from the hospital area. An observational, descriptive study has been done and two aspects have been borne in mind: 1. The demand from Schools for these sessions, which have included them as an extra-curricular activity. 2. The replies to a questionnaire with three questions that teachers completed in the months of February-March 2005 and which scored on a scale of one to ten. 268 educational sessions were performed among a total 3,758 pupils over 8 years, with an annual average of 33.5 (ranging from 31 to 36 sessions). Pupils came from 31 Schools with an annual average participation of 18.5 centres. The mean score on the content was 9.06 (ranging between 7 and 10 points). The average score on the dynamics used was 8.84 (ranging from 6 to 10 points). The average score for the reception of the Educational Programme by the pupils was 8.65 (ranging from 5 to 10 points). The results obtained indicate that the Educational Programme was well received and can be considered a good strategy to reach a certain sector of population, which in turn is an excellent transmitter of information among relatives and friends.
